Assassin's Creed Unveils Unexpected AoT Crossover for Holiday Season
In a unexpected collaboration that defies conventional expectations, Ubisoft has unveiled an digital partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the acclaimed anime series Attack on Titan. The unexpected holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, providing free additional story content for Shadows players.
Strange Questline Revealed
According to the authorized release, "A strange encounter draws heroes Naoe and Yasuke into a new adventure, where whispers of prohibited ceremonies and fearsome changes reverberate through the shadows." The narrative introduces a "oddly dressed woman named Ada" who tasks the characters with journeying into the Crystalline Cavern—a important location from Attack on Titan—to save her ally from a secret sect.
The mission focuses on "strange tests and a monstrous adversary" and is accessible to all players who have gained access to the Yasuke character.
Familiar Settings and Metamorphoses
The preview features the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan redesigned as the Crystal Cave. This significant location was formerly where the Reiss royal family handed down the Founding Titan ability through generations. The teaser concludes with a powerful scene showing a character, probably the prisoner, transforming into a Titan that looms over Naoe and Yasuke.
Special Rewards and Bonus Content
Players who finish the quest will obtain an unique katana together with several items hidden throughout the area in secret chests. The update also contains in-store Attack on Titan item packs, including:
- Titan-based attire for Yasuke
- Mikasa outfit for Naoe
- Special weapons
- Survey Corps steed
Latest Free Story Addition
This update also adds the game's newest free story content, titled "The Mystery." This lighthearted mission partners Naoe and Yasuke as they exchange distinctive techniques: Naoe reveals a dramatic version of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke masters subduing stealth takedowns. True to its name, "A Puzzlement" also features a new environmental puzzle that may ultimately shed light on some lingering questions from the main storyline.

This represents hardly the initial time the Assassin's Creed franchise has crossed over with popular anime series. The series formerly included a 2020 cross-promotional story linking Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Furthermore, Valhalla subtly featured a quest that clearly nodded to the well-known series One-Punch Man.
