Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening cup on 14 separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the showdown between the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired two times in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital leveler in the dying moments to send the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping crucial kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all converted with composure for PSG to complete a convincing shootout victory.

The record winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the past thirteen years.
